Grassroots Alliance for Community Education(GRACE),USA/Rescue Mission Ghana HIV/AIDS Project

Grassroot Alliance for Community Education (GRACE),USA based NGO in collaboration with Rescue Mission Ghana provided small grant to five grassroots organizations in Ghana to carry out HIV/AIDS (PLWHAs) prevention care and support activities such as treatment, home care visits to People Living With HIV/AIDS, support to Orphans Vulnerable Children (OVCs) and HIV/AIDS education geared towards attitudinal change among the beneficiary communities.The five organizatios are:

  • Women United Against AIDS in Ghana (Greater Accra Region)
  • Mathew Chapter 25 Ministries(Eastern Region)
  • Manya Krobo Queen Mothers Association (Eastern Region)
  • Life Relief Foundation(Western Region)
  • Centre for Sustainable Development(Brong Ahafo Region)
The integrated approach adopted by the five organisations by implementing the small grant given them portrayed that grassroots organisations can make a lot of impact on the lives of PLWHAs and OVCs no matter how small the funds could be.
Rescue Mission Ghana/ Ghana AIDS Commission HIV/AIDS Project

ghanaidsRescue Mission Ghana (RMG) in collaboration with the Ghana AIDS Commission (GAC) is currently working
on HIV/AIDS Project. The project is under the theme:
De-stigmatisation and avoidance of discrimination against People Living With HIV/AIDS. The main goal of the project is to sensitise the general public to avoid stigmatizing and
discriminating against People Living with HIV/AIDS. The main objectives of the project are

  • To train 100 Peer Educators in 6 communities in Ga District to lead the campaign
    against Stigmatisation and discrimination against People Living with HIV/AIDS.
  • To embark on Public awareness programme on accurate information on
    HIV/AIDS.
  • To form anti HIV/AIDS clubs in Schools and Communities to reduce the
    HIV/AIDS prevalence rate.

The main activities line up to achieve the objectives is one- on- one education, group
educations, public educational programmes drama, Counseling sessions, interschool
debate activities and other interactive programmes. The communities involved in the
project are Ayi Mensah, Pantang, Adenta, Madina, Oyarifa, and Kweiman.

GLOBAL TEENAGER PROJECT

pic7Rescue Mission Ghana in collaboration with International Institute for Communication and Development (IICD) Netherlands based development partner is undertaking a project dubbed Global Teenager Project. The project involved the use of e-mail and Internet to develop discussion among both local and international students.

This project, affords the opportunity for Ghanaian students to learn and communicate with their peers in the Netherlands, Jamaica, South Africa, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Romania. Latvia and Zimbabwe, Zambia, USA, Macedonia, Jordan Egypt, Suriname, Mali, and Burkina Faso through the E-mails and Internet. The project also affords students and Teachers to use Information Communication and Communication (ICT) as a tool for learning.

The project also aims to foster problem solving and critical thinking skills. In addition, it helps to enhance communication skills.
The Project helps to develop co-operative and collaborative work strategy.
The project assists teachers and students to learn to use Information Communication Technology skills and knowledge. The project also seeks to build human capacity of Rescue Mission Ghana to manage the activities of Global Teenager Project- Ghana. Other objectives are:

  • Build Capacity of Teachers in Information Communication Technologies.
  • Embark on collaborative learning process known as "Learning Circle".

Finally, the project seeks to conduct web development contest for Ghanaian Schools

SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT TRAINING CENTRE (SDTC)

pic6Sustainable Development training Centre has been set up to support and expand educational outreach of Rescue mission Ghana. The Centre provides young people the opportunity to have access to Information Communication Technology (ICT) education.

The Centre provides training in Internet, Software, Leadership skills, Youth micro enterprise and principles of Sustainable development. The centre also serves as a resource centre for Rescue Mission Ghana/Global Teenager project.
Despite our focus on young people, we also promote varied (ICT) and capacity building training programmes to workers, NGO’s and interested persons who want to acquire skills.
Rescue Mission Sustainable Development training Center is an ambiance place for interested people who desirous to learn ICT & Leadership Skills.

BE THE CHANGE PROJECT

pic2Rescue Mission Ghana in collaboration with its mother organisation Peace Child/Rescue Mission International is working to facilitate low-cost youth at Sustainable Community Project in Ghana. The project dubbed “Be The Change” main goals is:

  • To educate young people in the concept of Sustainable Development.
  • To involve young people in voluntary community development project.
  • To promote link between young people from different parts of the world through mutual support and the exchange of knowledge and understanding.
PREVENTION OF MOTHER TO CHILD HIV/AIDS TRANSMISSION (PMTCH) PROJECT.

pic13Rescue Mission Ghana in collaboration with Global Strategies for HIV Prevention, (USA) organised 2 separate workshops in Ghana to train grass root Non Governmental Organisations staff in Prevention of Mother to Child of HIV/AIDS Transmission strategies. The NGO staffs at the workshop have been empowered to developed projects on HIV/AIDS prevention care and support.

Currently, the NGOs have initiated their own projects. Global Strategies for HIV Prevention and RMG are providing technical assistance to the NGOs.
