Activities

Most of the Rescue Mission activities are based on topical issues confronting the environment. Also social issues like AIDS, DRUG, HUMAN RIGHTS,CHILD ABUSE etc, Some of these issues are promoted through lectures, debates, drama, chat sessions etc. Rescue Mission also participates in community based programmes like Clean -up exercise, tree planting and public education campaigns
Some of the past activities the Mission was involved were:

1995

pic9From 1995-to date, Rescue Mission Ghana spearheaded the organisation of "Clean up the world Campaign". The project is in a joint initiative between RMG and Clean up the World, an Australian based NGO. The campaign in Ghana is in collaboration with other youth organisations like Ghana United Nations Students and Youth Association, Green Earth Organisation, Ghana Red Cross and Environmental Writers Club of Ghana. The programme involved sanitation and educational activities.

1998

Educated members of its network in school through interactive programmes like debates, quiz and seminars on sustainable development

  • pic4RMG launched tree-planting campaign. Many first and second cycle institutions in the country have taken part in project.
  • RMG launched Human Rights, Poster and drawing competition. In addition, most first and second institutions took part in this project.
  • In collaboration with the United Nations Information Centre,(Ghana) RMG launched Human Rights education projects through Symposia, Seminars, Debates, Drama etc. in first and second cycle schools in Ghana
  • RMG hosted the first ever national consultative Conference on issues on environment and development. Resolutions were passed on poverty, unemployment, Human Right, Environment, War, Pence Education, Population etc.the resolution was sent to the Millennium Young people’s Conference held in Hawaii, USA in October 1999.
1999
  • pic6During 1998-99 Rescue Mission Ghana launched and coordinated an indicator pack projects in 50 schools nation-wide. Training sessions were organised for coordinators on how best to implement the project. Workshops, symposia were held in various schools to educate students on the importance and ideals of Agenda 21. ( Sustainable Development)
  • Rescue Mission Ghana hosted the 2nd African Rescue Mission Evaluation Conference for African Rescue Mission coordinators to evaluate the "indicator pack" project. The Conference was held from January 27 — 31 1999 under the theme “The Role of Young People in Sustainable Development". This conference brought together 50 participants from African countries

2002-2005

PREVENTION OF MOTHER TO CHILD HIV/AIDS TRANSMISSION (PMTCH) PROJECT.

pic13Rescue Mission Ghana in collaboration with Global Strategies for HIV Prevention, (USA) organised 2 separate workshops in Ghana to train grass root Non Governmental Organisations staff in Prevention of Mother to Child of HIV/AIDS Transmission strategies. The NGO staffs at the workshop have been empowered to developed projects on HIV/AIDS prevention care and support.

Currently, the NGOs have initiated their own projects. Global Strategies for HIV Prevention and RMG are providing technical assistance to the NGOs.
